Vice President, Business Development and Marketing


Innovaderm Research is seeking an experienced leader to drive the sales and marketing activities for the CRO Business Unit, including managing key accounts, managing study budgets and proposals, soliciting new business, and management of the sales and marketing team (7 FTEs including sales team, proposal management group and marketing/communication group).

Reporting to the CBO, the individual will collaborate with the Sr. management team at Innovaderm to define and develop future strategies for revenue growth.

The ideal candidate will have a scientific background, good analytical skills, extensive working experience in the clinical CRO industry, the ability to foster a team environment which encourages the professional development of the staff, and to be creative and comfortable working in a fast-paced industry which is customer-service based. The individual will serve as an active member of the leadership team.

More specifically, the Vice President business development and marketing will:

  • Develop networks towards sourcing for new clients across all regions
  • Meets or exceeds revenue growth goals for the sales territories and company
  • Elaborate, manage and execute the Business Development
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a cohesive marketing plan to increase brand awareness globally
  • Issue regular reports such as sales tracking and forecasts monthly. Provide pertinent analysis to facilitate strategic business decisions
  • Promote corporate mission, vision and objectives and foster a culture of professionalism, quality, excellence, and teamwork
  • Ability to train and coach its team on the company’s value proposition and service portfolio to ensure top level client experience in all cases of client interactions from follow up to delivery and needs assessment. Escalation point of contact with study sponsors, when needed
  • Responsible for the competitive watch and report back internally on suggested strategy to adopt
  • Ensure that projects proposals and budgets issued by the proposal management group are aligned with Innovaderm’s corporate financial objective
  • Work within the operational procedures of the organization towards its revenue generation and sales growth goals.
  • Assist in the development of competitive pricing strategies and leverage Innovaderm`s economic value to maximize operating surplus
  • Identify and develop new service offerings, new technologies, novel models and new regions to diversify Innovaderm’s service portfolio
  • Develop and assess new and existing business and sales strategies for the company's existing and future services through communication with the Innovaderm leadership team
  • Define the company’s strategy in the market by developing plans regarding the attendance at scientific meetings, direct sales, and other events
  • Manage a sizable number of members of staff to ensure they perform sales and marketing tasks of the organization as prescribed by management
  • Responsible to ensure that department activities are performed within budgets






  • BSc (required minimum), MSc, MBA preferred.



  • Experience: Required 10-15 years scientific sales experience within a contract research organization (CRO, lab, other services provider in clinical research) or Biotech. CRO experience preferred in Phase 2 and 3. Knowledge of dermatology an asset.
  • Relevant previous experience in sales and marketing. Proven track record in achieving sales targets


Knowledge and skills

  • Confident, innovative, insightful, client and business focused service oriented professional with knowledge of clinical drug and device research. Requires extraordinary organizational, analytical and communication skills. Requires ability to partner closely with business operations
  • The VP is required to be growth-oriented and be dynamic to meet up with the pace of competitors and overtake them towards re-positioning the organization at the apex in their preferred niche
  • The vice president’s role also involves building business network, as well as improving on company’s relationship, and with clients through top quality service delivery and enticing service representation
  • Good network of industry contacts, particularly in CRO of Phase 2 and phase 3
  • Computer competency (proficiency in Microsoft outlook, excel, word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written English. Knowledge of French is an asset

Work location

This position may be based in our headquarters in Montreal or in another major city in Canada (travel hub). This position may require (>30%) domestic and international travel or performing duties on weekends and/or holidays.
